Monique Becker (1958, Luxembourg) undertook numerous courses including all techniques of painting an drawings at the Art Academies Trier, Bad Reichenhall and Kolbermoor. She has had numerous exhibitions abroad, as well as in Luxembourg.
The artist achieved an honours degree as a master-class student of the Austrian artist Hermann Nitsch and was also a master class student of german artist Markus Lüpertz and austrian artist Siegfried Anzinger. Since 2017 Monique Becker is represented by Valerius Gallery. Currently she lives and works in Luxembourg.
Monique Becker’s work means the superposition of colours, the close contact with the canvas, the successive layers of paint. Her works evoke a sensual intensity and are charged with emotions that are deeply connected to the self. She has come to an intensive material sensuality. Colour is not understood as a hue, as a sound of colour, but as substance, as spillable, splashable, smearable matter. In her oeuvre she develops a timeless painting, which is very much determined by her personality, by her specific expressiveness. She is by no means restricted by a revival of informal painting, but develops an action painting that has an open development for the future.
